Jerry brushes off his white teeth for $200,000
The Product endorser sets to sell The Hospital
Yan Cheng Xu's (Jerry) CTV lead drama "The Hospital" will be shown tonight at 8 pm, and begins to readily expose his white teeth and toothbrush. Outside the drama, Jerry is the endorser for Oral B toothbrushand oral care products. In the drama, that toothbrush gets to be seen, and starts to turn into a second leading role, with a cost of HK$50,000 paid by Oral B. As the giant star brushes his teeth, the drama group earned $200,000.
Killing two birds in one stone
Since the start of its shooting, The Hospital has been the center of focus, not merely because of its strong control, but especially because it has the biggest F4 member Jerry, now in his next scene, the scene where he wake ups and brushes his teeth. As he holds up his endorsed Oral B toothbrush and exposes his pearly white, teeth, it gave good viewer results than with his advertisements.

Jerry's endorsement fees this year have exceeded HK$15,000.000. Among these are the Mia silver jewelry promo events, also Bench body wear with $200,000 sponsorship, and some corporate promos. The drama groups took advantage of these endorsements to make money, killing two birds in one stone. Jerry's best-seller smile is clearly seen in the first episode of The Hospital, to let the fans crave to see more. But is it really Wu Meng Da and Zhang Guo Zhu' fight for the directorship of the surgical deptartment which is the focus and Jerry's role as Dr. Su Yi Hua had been drawn in their faction war. In order to have a natural performance, Wu Meng Da used his Cantonese dialect. On of the leads Leon Dai frankly spoke, " There were many complications when we were filming the drama because we didnt understand each other" But since Jerry once filmed in HK and he learned a few of their dialect, he smiled and said, "It's fine with me. No problem" For tonight's initial broadcast, The Hospital drama group will set up 10 giant TV outdoor projectors spread across the entire country for a synchonized telecast. Jerry fans will gather at the top of Tung plaza to watch it all together. Last week, six international fan representaives held a meeting, and agreed to mobilize 1,500 fans from different countries to support him. A fan's mother was flattred when he said "I wish you're my mama" He also kept shaking hands with the fans for 3 and 1/2 hours, and as he had finished shaking hands with the last one he proudly said," I had also shook hands for 8 hours!" On September, he would go to Japan for a fan gathering and on two locations it already had 10,000 people who signed up, truly deserving to be called the "light of Taiwan".

Yesterday night, CTV had set up 10 huge electronic TV walls spread across Taiwan for a simultaneous outdoor broadcast of The Hospital. Without notice, Jerry went to the street opposite of Ding Hao market in Taipei where an huge electronic TV was showing The Hospital. At first, he wanted to watch the whole show inside the car. Later, as it gets warm, Jerry decided to jump off his vehicle and said, "Thanks everyone!" Wearing his baseball cap, it prompted fans to scream and crowd towards him. Director Cai Yue Xun then immediately held his arm and helped him get inside the car. The plain-clothed Janine Zhang was also discreetly in the vicinity and watched the whole show. Last night, The Hospital went off to fight and narrow down the 8pm war again. FTV's "Unforgettable Wish" had already extended its airing last week. The original 90-minute drama is extended to 100 minutes, to take advantage of its loyal viewers. FTV program manager Xu Nian Tai said, ¡§How we wish we could explain the whole plot, and it¡¦s not really our plan to extend it.¡¨ He also thought that with just 60 minutes, ¡§The Hospital¡¨ will be facing a heavy fight for audience viewership. But, CTV is full of confidence for The Hospital. CTV said , ¡§Jerry¡¦s fans from other countries are also all glued on their TVs and have a pulling action.¡¨ However, CTVs higher ups are worried for the different local viewers. While the viewership for the 11 pm rerun is also still high, the 60 minutes is way too short, and it might wash away half of the local viewers. Thus, it must drum up support for the drama.
Jerry went outdoors to watch The Hospital as fans besieged him
On August 15 at 8'oclock in the evening in Taipei, Jerry and Director Cai Yue Xun joined the fans in watching The Hospital. Jerry and the Director arrived very late, but fans still waited for Jerry's arrival while watching at the huge electronic TV wall. They crowded towards Jerry, hoping to get near him, and people also struggled like mad to take his pictures in their digital cameras, that led Jerry to pull down his cap for cover.

During the ctv interview of Jerry with Leon Dai on 8/11, Jerry was asked about what type of girl he likes. his answer is consistent with what he has said in the past which is : no exact specification, as long as can get along, then from there continue to get to know each other better. Jerry did say something new, he said that he is one that can't express his feelings well, for instance, he is concern about his mother but somehow his way of showing it does not convey as such. when the host asked Leon whether Jerry is like that, Leon said that after working with Jerry for so long & observing how Jerry gets along with the crew & cast, he finds Jerry description of himself very different. and Leon said to Jerry: "you treat your girlfriend differently then". when Jerry looked at him, Leon laughed & said "i apologise". Jerry then diverted the subject by saying that in his opinion, Leon Dai is a spectacular actor, he should bring glory to Taiwan, etc, etc. Leon started laughing & asked Jerry why suddenly have so much words, are u proposing to me, i accept your proposal.this ctv interview is abt 25 minutes, its all focus on The Hospital, only at the ending last few minutes was Jerry asked the question of the type of girl he likes.The host also asked Jerry why was he tagged as a difficult person to work with. Jerry said its because of the high standards he demand of himself. Jerry said that for instance, during filming of The Hospital, there was 1 time that Director Chai refused to film because 1 of the props is missing 1 minor thing. To a lot of people, that's should not affect filming but not to Director Cai, he insists that the prop must be exactly what he wants down to the most small details. So people said Director Cai is too nitpicking, a diffcult person but Jerry said that he supports Director Cai's thinking.Jerry said that Director Cai, Leon & him are very similar in that all demand very high standards on themselves. The host showed 1 confrontation scene between Jerry & Leon in The Hospital , Jerry & Leon filmed 30 takes before they were satisfied with the result.
CTV THE WHITE STORM INTERVIEW W/ JERRY AND JANINE
Jerry, when asked whats there to like about Janine, said : she's beautiful, there's a simplicity about her, not loaded down with excess baggage, she's her natural self which is very important (Jerry explains that some ladies when they know they are beautiful tends to be conscious about it ).That's when Janine said to somebody's besides her : Is he admitting indirectly that I am beautiful?? And Jerry replied laughingly : I am directly saying she's beautiful.Janine, asked about Jerry, said that after working with someone, you will get to know the person better & will change your opinion of that person. at the beginning there were ppl telling her Jerry is like this, like that, etc, etc. but after working with Jerry, she finds Jerry is a serious & hardworking person & after getting to know the real him, the real him will attract people.Jerry said Janine gives him a deep impression. At first, when he first met her, she was just a university student but after working with her, he finds she has many attractive qualities. She is a concerned & understanding person. When his mood was not good, she was able to understand & accept. Jerry never thought this could be so. Jerry said thanks to Janine, there was a time when his mood was not stable, the concern she showed to him touch him deeply.
Bao Long's auction got a total of $1.120 MILLION
Yesterday, The Hospital Asian Premier at the Taipei International Conference Center was filled up with fans and media from various countries. Once more, Jerry's "Giant Star" glamor attracted about 3000 fans from Japan, Korea, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia and so on. Jerry's doctor's suit and accessories was auctioned off at a NT$1,120,000 total price. Earlier, all the cast descended at the escalator with the "red carpet" from the 2nd floor; from the senior stars, to the supporting cast, and then to Leon Dai. As soon as Yan Jin Hua appeared, fans already screamed because Jerry, Janine and Director Cai followed him, and crowded in to take pictures, that created chaos. Yesterday, the entire cast was wearing white in tune with the drama theme, and only Jerry was wearing a black velvet ARMANI suit, that made him stood out. He said, " It was not intentional. the designer just lent me this suit to wear today." Jerry's every move was captured by the thousands of cameras flashing before him. The Hospital Premier worked with World Vision, whose proceeds will all be donated to the organization. As Jerry called the the fans who won the Charity auction, they lead their hands and didnt forget to hug him With a 200,000 cash bid, a Japanese male named Yu Ben Qing won Jerry's neclace, intending to give it to his wife who is a Jerry fan. He bid on all the auction items that the host then granted him the name "Mr. Japan". When Jerry was putting on the neclace to his wife, Yu Ben Qing even took pictures of his wife at the stage, that Jerry became a bit envious on this sweet gesture. Fans had a big hand in this "Charity event". Apart from their bids, they need to undergo identification procedures. All holding their cash payments, millions of cash flowed in to the World Vision staff who were present, escorted by bank employees to assisted them in the transactions. Jerry doesnt want to talk about LZL anymore, but yesterday, he had loosely praised her as kind-hearted dutiful daughter. Yesterday, both Yan and Lin had separate functions and when asked if LZL sent her greetings to his new drama, he just said " She is a kind-hearted dutiful daughter. I also wish her father's new book will be a big success."

The Hospital Charity Auction Results
The Charity Press Conference was a big big success and Jerry's fans are superb. There were five items used by Jerry for auction. The final bid prices are:
1. Ah Xu's doctor jacket and name tag: NT$300,000 by a Japanese fan. Jerry put the jacket on her. At the end, the Japanese fan gave the doctor's jacket to Jerry as gift,and Jerry gave her a big hug.
2. Dr. Su's stethoscope: NT$260,000 by yanchengxu.net(NT$180,000) + nbbbs (NT$80,000). Dong Pei Dai Jie went on stage as representative for all the Jerry fans from Mainland China. Later, Sibala represented yanchengxu.net and nbbbs to give the stethoscope to Jerry as gift.
3. A ring; NT$260,000 by a Japanese girl. She wanted Jerry to put the ring on her finger. Later, she also gave the ring to Jerry's mom as gift. According to fans, then, she hugged Jerry tightly with no intention to let go. hahaha...
4. A necklace: NT$200,000 by a Japanese husband who accompanies his wife who is a Jerry fan to TW. Jerry hugged with the wife when the husband took photos for them. Then it was the husband's turn to take photo with Jerry. It is so funny that this husband also bidded on some previous items but without success. The host joked that he wanted to win the bid, so he could get on stage to hug Jerry like other female fans, but actually he bidded the item(s) for his wife. When Jerry realized that the husband did all that for his wife, he bowed to him.
5. Doctor's ID: NT$100,000 by an Indonesian fan. This Indonesian fan also gave the ID back to Jerry as gift.Yes, the figures are correct. The five items used by Jerry has raised NT$1,120,000. OMG!!!Are you proud and touched by Jerry fans? They all gave most of the items back to Jerry as gift.
At The Hospital Preview Screening, Jerry's Asian-wide fans packed at the venue
Jerry's charms is irresistable! For the Premier of his lead role drama "The Hospital", up to a thousand fans from all over Asia specially came to Taiwan and packed themselves in at the Taipei Internatiional Conference Center. When fans personally saw Jerry at close distance, they started to scream and went out of control. Also, there were some fans who needed to give excuses to host Tao Jing Ying for not clapping thier hands to other artists! CTV's 8 pm serial "The Hospital" will be shown on the 15th, and today, at the "30 hour Famine" Charity Preview Screening, fans from Taiwan, Japan, Hong Kong, China, Malaysia, Philippines, Indonesia and Thailand travelled thousands of miles just to come. The Japanese, who were about 200 people, were the biggest crowd among the fans. Although the Indonesians were not much, their " Shi Nai" was a winner among the fans. Together with Koreans, Thais and Filipino fans, clad in their individual colorful costumes , using their traditional national attires, struggled to fight for glamor, and held hand sign cards with the "XU" charcter in every card, to attract their idol's attention. Aside from fans, Asian-wide media also fought each other for coverage. The Preview Screening unfolds at the red carpet. Not just like the ordinary red carpet , The Hospital red carpet is" from top to bottom." Jerry with Qian De Men, Zhang Guo Zhu, Liang Xiu Shen, Zhang Fu Jian, Leon Dai, Janine Zhang, Yao Dai Wei, Xu An An, etc;, as well as Director Cai Yue Xun walked from the top 2nd level escalator of the International Conference Center down to the 1st level lobby to meet the fans. Tao Jing Ying called the four senior supporting cast Zhang Guo Zhu, Liang Xiu Shen and Zhang Fu Jian as the "First F4" . When Zhang Gue Zhu introduced himself, he said, "I'm Papa Zhang Zhen. I wont say much introduction, young people dont know me. " Soon after the Preview, Jerry was left to stay at the stage. Just seeing him enter, there were already continous camera bulbs flashing,and even much longer laughter and applause. After the preview, the Charity auction was held. Auctioned off was Jerry's designer brand doctor's jacket, ID card and stethoscope used in the drama, and fans has returned with warm cheers. All proceeds will go to the World Vision organization.

Local Survey Says "The Hospital" Only Strong In Publicity Hype
The initial results of a local ad agency survey that measures audienceviewership from Taiwan's 66 cable channels from 6-10PM at night showedperennial favorite "Yi Nan Wang" of Formosa Television still lordingon the first night of airing of Jerry Yan's highly anticipated "TheHospital".The two year long 8PM drama stronghold still leads with an average3.3% rating, followed by the concluding SET 8PM drama "Golden FerrisWheel" with an average 1.8% rating. "The Hospital" only registered anaverage 1.1% rating, placing them in third.According to some fans though, it is still too early to judge the showsince it is still starting, and a lot of people are still trying tograsp the storyline. According to AGB-Nielsen, Taiwan's official ratings survey in theirreport released yesterday afternoon, Jerry Yan's "The Hospital"registered an average 2.35 rating with the highest viewership of 2.55%. The report didn't say about its "competitors" in the 8PM slot, exceptto say that of this number of viewers that tuned in, those watchingthe show are mostly young people and women.As a matter of fact, some forumers at CTV couldn't understand theresults of the viewership survey, although Jerry himself in oneinterview, when asked about the pressures of getting good ratings forhis show, said that he would already be very happy when he hearspeople saying that "The Hospital" is one great drama series. John Lennon and Jerry Yan. Two men from two different eras and in two vastly different cultures. Yet they share one common element: the delirious admiration and even worship of their female fans, and every move they make is likened to the moves of our Lord Jesus Christ Himself.I was not yet born when John Lennon, then one of the frontmen for the biggest selling pop group of all time, the Beatles, started making waves along with band members Paul Mc Cartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr back in England. Readings I have made from old magazines when I was in high school made me realize their near-divinity stature.John Lennon in one press interview, even bragged that he and the Beatles are now "more popular than Jesus Christ". Despite such a controversial remark, he never failed to get the very warm, sometimes idolistic tendencies of his mostly female fans, who endured every move he made just for them to catch even a glimpse of his face.In 1980, John Lennon is in the brink of a chart comeback. He was however felled by an assassin's bullet. Yet even in death, two or three years into it, his records continue to sell and fans still came to his graveyard to "honor and worship" him.Fast forward to 2001: Four relatively unknown handsome young Taiwanese mesmerized at first (one was born a Singaporean though), local viewers when a Japanese-adapted pop idol drama started playing that year every late Thursday night on Taiwanese television. The fame of "Meteor Garden" began to spread, and among the four hunks that easily got noticed, is Jerry Yan.Jerry, who can hardly put up a good tune as a singer at first, and even couldn't handle his conversations in a straightforward manner, rose to astronomical fame because of his role as the leader of the F4, Dao Ming Si.In fact, he, and fellow cast members Vic "Zai Zai" Zhou Yi-Min, Vanness Wu Jian-hao and Ken Zhu Shao-tien were not even known collectively back then as F4. The absurdity of such an account, and the appearance of "self-proclaimed expert analysts" among F4 fan groups, showed the level of support that the group has, particularly on Jerry, who among the four, is the worst performer in terms of talent.I guess Jerry must be very lucky to have such adoring and "addictive" fan base from all over Asia that he can well afford to misbehave, ungroom himself and be as he was everytime he faces the media. Janine fell for jerry yan
While filming [The Hospital], Janine is the love interest of Jerry wherein they encountered many obstacle, outside filming, she also fell in love with this cute guy, she knows they can't be together, after the shooting has finally ended, she relied on writing thesis and slowly recovered from that feeling. Janine Zhang and Jerry Yan have many intimate scenes in this series, to be able to work out their feelings for each other, Director Cai insisted on shooting their intimate scenes during the later part of the filming. There was a scene wherein they were filming for the parting scene, many were touched by Janine's acting: "The tears kept on flowing, I don¡¯t have to force my feelings and I began to get the right act into the scene, in the end I found out, I was already falling for him." Janine said that after the filming of the whole series, she wasn't able to get over her feelings for Jerry, there was one time, while sitting on a train going to school, she looked over the window and tears started to roll down, "While filming, whenever I see Jerry's bright and sunny smile, I was reminded of my ex-boyfriend, my heart would hurt a little bit." Janine said that she was afraid that she couldn't get out of this feeling, in the end she changed her focus and spent 2 months writing every important part of her life in her graduation thesis.
