New TV series will showcase nation's scenic locations
By Shelley ShanSTAFF REPORTER
Monday, March 12, 2007, Page 2
The Tourism Bureau announced last year that it would sponsor the production of a romantic TV series called Wish to See You in Taiwan, starring the popular boy band F4 -- on the condition that the series showcase some of the nation's scenic locations for its setting. The TV series, scheduled to be completed by November, will be broadcast during prime time in Japan and South Korea. While the bureau has not finalized its list of recommended sites, the scouting for potential locales has already generated discussions in cyberspace.
Some ideas
Yvonne Lee, an engineer, said in an instant message exchange that there were a couple of places she would recommend, including Alishan and Kuanshan."The latter may be less known to the public, but it is a place where you can watch a beautiful sunrise and is one of the few less-polluted areas in Taiwan," she wrote. Hannah Tsai, an office clerk, suggested a few possible combinations for scenic spots. She said that crews could shoot outdoor scenes in the narrow valley spanning Hualien and Taitung.Should the filming crew be interested in scenes from central Taiwan, Sun Moon Lake, Cingjing Veterans' Farm to Ouwanta Forest Recreation Areas all would be viable options. The Cingjing Farm is known for its widespread grassland and scenery similar to that found in Switzerland, while Ouwanta is home of the Atayal Tribe and known for its maple tree forest.Tsai said another option would be the coastal areas in the northeast. Also, given the right timing, the crew could shoot in Sanjhih, Taipei County, when the cherry blossoms are in full bloom, she wrote.Tsai said she also heard that the Bakuen Farm, located in a 1.3km-high mountain in Hsinchu County, was a nice location, adding that it was perfect for those who enjoy the feeling of being surrounded by clouds.
Other options
Doris Huang, a writer, said she would recommend Furen Village (???) on the Nankan Islet in Matsu. She said its coastal areas resemble those along the Mediterranean Sea.Jenny Yeh, also a writer, said that the area surrounding Tamkang University could also provide a good setting for a romantic series. The Tamshui Fishermen's Wharf, Fort San Domingo and other tourist attractions are found in the area.A man who only gave the name Tommy said that a romantic series needed a setting of such beauty as that found at Liushidanshan, Hualien County, famous, in summertime, for its hills filled with tiger lilies. The tourism bureau is still encouraging people to submit their ideas for settings to be used during the shooting of the series.

Still under Genting's spell
The Bangsar Boy
I AM not quite sure what my obsession with Genting Highlands is but I absolutely love that place. Perhaps it stems from the fact that it is such a fun place to be.
When younger, it was not close enough to make frequent visits and now that I'm much older and mobile, it's really barely an hour away.
The unfortunate part for me, however, is that many of my friends don't feel the same way.
Recently, I was given the opportunity to spend a night there and obviously, I grabbed the opportunity. I had a hard time convincing friends to come along with me but eventually (with the promise of a free bed and me doing the driving) they relented. I didn't spend much time up there, we got there in time for a quick dinner and then it was time for the Vanness Wu concert we were due to watch. After that, we took a walk around the indoor theme park.
The next morning, we had a quick breakfast and I was determined to play some games. I wasn't so much interested in the outdoor theme park that particular day, recollecting some scary memories.
I was there once in 2003 with a group of colleagues. We spent a couple of nights there which was really fun but the best part really was going on the rides. You see, prior to that, I have always been scared of such rides and the only reason I agreed to join my friends was because of a particular ride I had gone on the year before.
This was at one of the theme parks on the Gold Coast, Australia, during my round the country visit before heading back to KL, after having completed my studies.
Having paid so much money to get in (I really only wanted to visit the house where they shoot Big Brother Australia TV series), I decided I could not leave without trying out a ride.
This ride raises a group of people above a big pool of water and you are clamped down to your seats by this huge bars that come down from your shoulder and right down to your belly.
I met this guy in the queue and he was nice enough to talk me through the whole ordeal. When we were going round and round, the guy – a typical Australian bloke – was kind enough to offer to hold my hand in exchange for me keeping my eyes open.
"You can't miss this view, mate," was his reason. When we were suspended 90 degrees, our body weight all on the bar, it was he who convinced me to let go and hold my hand out a la Superman.
I did and the feeling was amazing. So, when I was in Genting with my colleagues, I carried with me that confidence. I went on the Cork Screw which was a great feeling and
I became brave enough to go on this device, I forget what it is called.
It basically lifts you very, very high up, holds you there for a while before making a free fall drop. It was a blast and I was convinced that I had overcome my fear of thrill rides.
Unfortunately, a visit back in 2005 (my last time there before last weekend – so much for loving the place, huh?) I once again decided to go on that ride. I wanted to experience the same thrill except this time, on my own. All the way up there, I asked myself: "Oh my gosh, what were you thinkiiiiiii…" and before I could finish that thought, I was on my way down, totally unprepared and scared sh**less.
I've not been back on a thrill ride since. So this time round, I was still determined to act like a kid and went around looking for some games to entertain myself with.
My friends and I found ourselves in the arcade section of the indoor theme park and seeing all those games – Street Fighter, Daytona racing and Time Cop – just brought back memories.
My friend and I were talking about the days back in school when we'd play truant (I only did it once, mum!) to head over to the arcade centre in Jaya Shopping Centre in Petaling Jaya. At that time, with my allowance, I could only afford a couple of games so what we had to do was be really good so as to keep winning because as long as you don't lose, you're still in the game.
I also remember the days when my uncle from Singapore would want to head up to Genting to have a go at the casino, and my mum would insist that I go along.
Now, I'm not sure if mum sent me there to babysit my uncle, or vice versa but we had the time of our lives.
While he was in there trying to win more money for me to play games (so long as he kept winning, I had stash to keep playing), I was trying to win as much coupons to exchange for a pencil box, or a soft toy. Not quite the same thing, but I've never been a gambling kind of person anyway.
The best part however for me has always been the cold weather because then it really felt like I was away from home.
I always made it a point to walk about and take in the fresh air. Of course, the best way was really by taking the taxi down – the windows are never down, and the drivers always drove as if they were going to drive over the ledge which ensured that we got a cold blast of air in our face all the way down.
Hmm... maybe that's why I've got such a phobia of thrill rides.

F4 were divided into two groupsJerry & Vanness rests next door, Ken & Zaizai goes together
As F4 goes to Japan and Korea, the four kept a coordinated appearance. Yet however, in order to clearly understand, Jerry and Vanness stays in one room while Zaizai and Ken are in another room. Not only were their suits were colored dark gray and black, even at the airplane seating and hotel accommodation they were into two groups. In addition, during the live interview, they had selected their seating according to their division. Although F4 says that they all get along well, yet there is still an installed division. When Vanness went solo in his album signing event, Jerry surprisingly appeared to support him, letting Vanness deeply touched. The two was also once photographed together eating hot pot in a restaurant. ZaiZai and Ken once worked together in "Love Storm" they became close and had friendly bonding. This time, as they went to the airport to go to Japan, they rode the same car together and used each other's comb and makeup. In Japan, the 4 stayed in the executive suite of Cerulean Tower Tokyu, which costs NT$100,000 a night. The entire floor only has two rooms, Jerry and Vanness stayed at the 36th floor while Zaizai and Ken stayed at the 35th floor. At the press con, the 4 are also divided into 2 groups, and even their suits are divided into two colors. Jerry and Vanness were both wearing gray while Ken and Zaizai were wearing black, clearly marking their division. Yesterday as they ended up their Japanese tour, they would proceed to Korea to continue their Taiwan promo. Besides their scheduled press conference, they have also accepted 8 major network and print media interviews. After Jerry went solo, he changed his manager-consultant again. This time in his Tokyo trip, he had with him Hong Jun Chen (Billy) as his new manager.
Vanness scores for effort
Despite an injury, Taiwanese heart-throb Vanness Wu put on an energetic show, with slick moves to feet-stomping music.
TAIWANESE singer/actor Vanness Wu heated up the Arena of Stars in Genting Highlands recently in his "Vanness Wu Live In Genting" concert despite an injury sustained during rehearsals. Appearing with a cane, which he put to good use as a dance prop as well, he revealed that he had fallen down the stairs earlier that day and had hurt his leg.But if you think that the injury would put an end to his dance moves that night, you are mistaken. He gritted his teeth and pranced so well that you forgave the fact that his vocals left something to be desired, at times, failing to reach the high notes and, more often than not, drowned by the pounding music.Although it was not a capacity crowd, his die-hard fans from Korea, Japan, the Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and of course, Malaysia, more than made up for it with their enthusiasm and support."It was unfortunate that I fell and hurt my leg," he said. "Although I regret that it might not be a 100 per cent performance tonight, I promise that I will still do my best. And it would surely help if there is more screaming!"Naturally, fans complied heartily, especially when Wu stripped off his shirt to show his well-toned body and abs. Fans stood and waved lighted sticks and sang along. The music was feet-tapping good and Wu did a great job in grabbing one's attention with his slick moves. Speaking to his fans in English, the ABC (American-born Chinese) sang both Mandarin as well as English numbers and revealed that he especially practised two numbers by our Michael Wong (Tung Hua/Fairy Tale) and Fish Leong's (Yung Chi/Courage).I must say that he did pretty well with both. Other tracks that he sang included Shen Ti Hui Chang Ke (Singing With The Body), Wo Tao Yen Wo Ze Zhi (I Hate Myself) and Zi Mo Kuang Chang (Lonely Plaza).Of course, it would not be a Vanness Wu concert without the song Liu Xin Yu (Meteor Rain), the theme song of the drama Meteor Garden, which shot Wu and his group F4 to fame.He also did well with English numbers such as Amazing Grace, Kissing A Fool and I Was Born To Love You, etc.A lucky fan was chosen to go on stage to be serenaded with Kissing A Fool. Wu very appropriately repeated those three little words "I love you" in different languages during the rendition of I Was Born To Love You.The special guest for the evening was Nicky Lee, of the Taiwanese group Machi.Besides singing three solo numbers, the Korean-born, Taiwan-based singer also joined Wu for the closing as well as the encore, where they sang Celebration, A-Niu's – Yung Ma Lai Si Ya De Tian Chi Lai Suo Ai Ni (Saying I Love You with Malaysia's Climate) and, what else, Rasa Sayang.Wu might need some brushing up where his singing is concerned but he gets full marks for effort.
SMAP X SMAP warmly welcomed F4, Takuya Kimura became F5
Source: China TimesMarch 8, 2007
Because F4 is highly famous, even Takuya Kimura thought of becoming "F5!" Last night, F4 was invited to guest in SMAP's own variety show "SMAP X SMAP" where two of the biggest kings of Taiwan and Japan finally met. Jerry and Takuya exchanged admirations to each other, and Takuya even personally planned the episode to welcome their special guests.
SMAP X SMAP is shown in Fuji Channel, and has remained its high ratings over the years. Normally, hey would treat their foreign guests at theis "BISTRO SMAP Celebrity Nook" However, because they felt F4 deserved a special treatment, Takuya didnt only transformed himself as F5 but also came up with a short "Meteor Garden" skit, parlor game ans some few interviews. The whole program was taped from 4 to 11 pm. However, captain Masahiro Nakai and Goro Inagaki was absent last night due to other commitments.
Their manager revealed that Takuya really admires F4. He then thought that they could work together and Jerry really wants to see Takuya perform. In his admiration for Takuya, he said, " He is much good-looking in TV than I am. He is really a dream man by women, " making Takuya continuously flattered. In the "Meteor Garden" skit, Takuya and Kimura played Dao Ming Si together, and must choose to wear one of the two Shan Cai's Checkered skirts of Shingo Katori. However, Shingo warned both of them. For tarnishing his image for this short play, Jerry said, "No problem, I just thought it's funny."
F4 unfolds "Chinese Wave" in Japan as Tourism Ambassadors
Japanese TV channels had been continuously reporting the Taiwanese Idol stars F4 since their arrival in Tokyo last night. However, F4's stop in Japan is only the first wave of their Tourism endorsing, for which it will be followed by a fan gathering in April at the Taiwan University gym. As of now, there are already many Korean and Japanese fans who are beginning to sign up, afraid they might not have slots left when others come in, adding to the heat of the "China Wave".
At the airport, Jerry said that the April 22 fan gathering in Taiwan is a chance for F4 to get together again after a long time, and hopes that everyone could come and see if F4 has improved. Vic said" Ken laugghed at me when he saw my short hair and said I looked like Sun Wu Kong. Vanness wished that fans could come to the concert and see me dance. I may monkey-dance. " Sources who revealed said that their performance will be considerably rich and brilliant. If they will do it in Japan, they can even do 6 shows. However, the purpose of their trip today is to promote Taiwan tourism. Target is to attract at least 5000 Korean and Japanese tourist fans to come to Taiwan. That is why this time, they will hold it in Taiwan. 0ofD&u7i!DIEven a 58-year old fan who lives in the mountains of Tokyo already signed up for the fan gathering, said she never been in Taiwan and would do all means to get tickets just to see F4's rare reunion.
/@r5G(y9M+[/ J"BKen is deeply touched by the warm reception and orderliness of fans at the airport. Last time he came to Japan, the crowd was not that big. IN HK, crowding of fans caused some to be hurt. At the plane he saw a thunder and he got worried he might not see everyone but then they safely arrived and felt happy to see everyone.
Jerry said " Every time I go to Japan, I notice that fans are very active and happy. I worry for everyone's safety so after I come out, we all try to move quickly as possible. But I wish I can have much time to go slower so I can get in touch with everyone." Among the 4, Vic was the first to move away to the airport exit. Hearing a two-thousand stong crowd screaming "F4 F4", he was the first to wave his hands and seen the excitement in the fans' faces. Because his hair is much shorter now, some fans didn't recognize him at once. He joked," When I came out of the country, my hair is still longer, but when the thunder stroke, it became shorter." Japanese media who are fairly aware on F4's fame, asked the four on the project. Ken said that the Aprill 22 concert is the first wave. Besides the advertisements, there are also the photoshoots and other events. He said that at present he is resting and will come up with a movie or maybe a CD. Vanness revealed that he would release his second solo album soon and also has just set up a production firm.
Vic mentioned that he had recently been making a movie and will be shown this year. Also he would soon release a Japanese anime adapted TV serial " Delicious Relationship" as well as his 3rd solo album, wishing he could promote it successfully this year.
Jerry said that this year he might start on his solo album. For a TV serial, he was then pretty choosy, but now he hopes he could come up with many projects. It looks like that these tall, talented and handsome Taiwanese TV serial leading men, compared to these short Japanese actors, the outstanding one is visibly evident, much less falling behind the Taiwanese male artists.
Zai Zai rattles Da S skills in cooking noodles, middle of the night begs for Ken Zhu's rewarding dishes
ZaiZai has finished his promotion for Silence in Japan; he stayed there for 4 days and 3 nights. During the propaganda he revealed that there was this one time his girlfriend Da S gave him some instant noodles to eat. He also revealed that there was this one time he went to Zhu Xiao Tian's house to beg for something to eat. He said: "Do you have time tonight?" The neighbors who have heard it felt it was a bit weird but actually he just wanted to ask for some pork dish so he could eat!Aside from saying that Da S skills in cooking is still the same, he loves to go to Zhu Xiao Tian's house, knock on his door and beg for something to eat. There was a time when both of them were practically neighbors and Zhu Xiao Tian can really cook Zhu You Ban (I think this is like Crispy Pata). His stomach was really hungry and he would just go there to beg for food. So far, the only person he really forces to cook is Zhu Xiao Tian it's because ZXT's skill in cooking is extremely good there was a time in a fit of hunger he just went to ZXT's house press the door bell and beg for food.
POP GROUP F4 PROMOTES TAIWAN'S TOURISM IN JAPAN 2007-03-07 20:50:32
Tokyo, March 7 (CNA) Popular Taiwanese four-man pop group, F4, held an international news conference in Tokyo to promote tourism in Taiwan and went to Fuji Television Network for a shoot on the famous television variety show of the Japanese five-man group, SMAP, where they talked about beauty of Taiwan.
F4 members Jerry Yan, Vic Chou, Ken Chu, and Vanness Wu said they were proud to be representatives of Taiwan's tourism at the international press conference organized by Taiwan's Tourism Bureau. The four members all showed off aspects of Taiwan that they favor, from beautiful natural scenery to delicious local fruits and dishes.
F4 talked about beauty of Taiwan during SMAP's show, "SMAP¡Ñ SMAP"-- the most sought after program for Japanese variety artists wishing to make a public appearance. This was the first time that Taiwanese artists have been on the program. Board Chairman of AzioTV Go Fu-hung said the show was designed by Takuya Kimura, a SMAP member and one of Japan's most favorite pop idol, and is scheduled to air next week.
